The batteries for my controller died today and I won't be getting  more until tomorrow.

Hopefully it will be back to business for Day Four

Journal Day Two

Well here we are, Day 2 of my little Journal detailing the day to day life of the Arkhunter named "Hank Herchief".

Been a pretty hectic day in the bay area for our brave adventurer, what with all the Raiders, 99ers and Hellbugs he has had to face while trying to complete his little quests.  Luckily in a few instances some other employees of Von Bach were there to lend a helping hand for which he is extremely thankful.

Still now I guess it time to get to the main part of this post.

Just what did old Hank get up to today?

MISSIONS

Boy has Hank had his work cut out for him this day.

It all started when Cass thought she had found a lead.  Seemed like a simple job of obtaining two codes from a small band of Raiders, and with the help of a few others that also seemed to be seeking the same information, this was soon proven to be the case.  The next part where I was to use the relay station to access and then delete the data needed...that was a bit more difficult but nothing I couldn't handle in the end.

Still that lead to a pretty intense battle at San Quentin where me and Coop were searching for some piece of  Ark-Tech. Unfortunately the item we had been sent to collect was "confiscated" by some Dark Matter soldiers who then proceeded to disappear...great more people to deal with.  For some reason this lead Coop to blowing up the place...with me still in it.  I honestly do not think I have  run that far or that fast before, but I safely made it out in one piece...though without the Ark-Matrix

Well next it was a simple case of rescuing some miners from the Eastshore Docks and tracking down an Overland Transport to recover Rosa's tech which can help find the Ark-Tech.  Well it did work...kind of.  At least it lead me to the devices "tracking anode" just a shame the two parts had been seperated.

Luckily for me it seemed that Rosa's friend Eren had saw Varus Soleptor with some mercs who may or may not have the very item.  So my next stop was to see old Varus over at Muir Process Plant Dam.  Of course it wasn't going to be that easy as it turned out that he had fallen fowl of a  large group of 99ers and was in need of rescuing.

In Gratitude he directed me to some mine where I was to find the Ark-Matrix.  Turns out it was never there and I was just sent to clear out the current inhabitants to make way for Varus to take over.  I guess I should have seen that one coming...

Next, just as things were starting to pick up, Eren somehow had managed to get herself captured.  So once again I found myself assisting in someones rescue, this time with Rosa at my side.  Of course by "assisting" what I really meant was that I had to do all the work.  Still with Eren finally rescued it was now time to look for that missing Ark-Matrix but first off to get the Ark-Cell

Amazingly it turned out that the person who had it was the very person who Rosa had a vendetta against, all due toteh fact that this guy Joe Teach (or Jackleg Joe as he was known), had killed her dad...or something.  To be honest I wasn't really paying attention to her I was just getting sick of constantly being one step behind the Ark-Cell.  Still after a long and very arduous battle which cost me a good few thousand scrip I finally managed to avenger her father and get back Von Bach's precious piece of tech.  Of course by the end of the battle I was secretly wishing that Joe had killed Rosa along with her dad and saved me all this bother.

Oh and then I found myself helping a few other Arkhunters prevent a Meltdown at some Plant as well as rescuing a whole bunch of people by the roadside from  Raiders, Hellbugs and 99ers

and so that is where I find myself

ARKFALLS

Number 1:  Just a minor case of killing scrappers while attempting to destroy an Arkfall Core, nothing really special to write about.  Still it did unlock some more information about them for me to look at later.

Number 2:  Back to basics. A simple case of surviving a few waves of Hellbugs.  Still you gotta love the classics and those little critters are so darn cute, seems a shame to shoot them in the face all the time.  Still better me then them I say.

Number 3: This was a bit more difficult. Not only did I have to destroy a crystal (which are pretty resilient to damage) I also had to deal with a whole bunch of 99ers.  Luckily I had a few dozen friends to help me and again it unlocked some information for me to look at later, this time on the 99ers.

Number 4:  Another Arkfall where I had to deal with the 99ers.  This time however I was pleasantly surprised to see it was a case of surviving 3 waves of them.  This is actually the first time I have had to do this, usually they are just there while I try to destroy a crystal or something, so this made a nice chance of pace.

COMPETITIVE

Just two simple Team Deathmatches today, both on the observatory and somehow in both cases my team won...thanks in no way whatsoever to me because I was totally off my game today.  I think an ant with a leaf could have killed me during those mathes.  Yes I was THAT BAD.

Still it was fun and it give me a break from doing more missions.

CO-OPERATIVE

Hank and some like-minded folk decided to brave the dank dark mines, filled with all sorts of nasty hellbugs and 99er cyborgs, all to discover the Motherlode.  Unfortunately it turned out that the Motherlode was some giant evil cyborg abomination that needed a swift and merciless killing and not the untold riches I thought it would be...well actually I did expect it to be a boss battle but I wanted more riches for beating it then we got.

WEAPONS OF THE DAY

VOT Auto-Fragger:  A cool little alien shotgun that holds and fires 15 shells of plasma  in 3-round bursts for awesome death bringing power

VBI Grenade Launcher:  A simple little grenade launcher that lets you fire off 5 small grenades / mines which you can then remotely detonate.  Perfect for when there is a whole bunch of enemies grouped together or spread apart as you can adapt the use of this weapon accordingly.

Journal Day One

This is the personal journal of the Arkhunter known as "Hank Herchief"  (Hank is just my characters name and not my real name, it is not even close to my real name)

The date is April 8th and I have been playing this game for the last 6 days, ever since it became available in the UK on the 2nd, and decided that I would keep on online Journal of what I have done on the game.

This is for the PS3 version of the game, tho I don't see what difference that makes as this is not a review of any particular version.

Not really sure how many hours I have put into this game so far, haven't really been keeping count and so far I have found no where in the games menus that tell you.  Still at a guesstimate I would have to say my total playtime is somewhere between 20 - 25 hours.

So what have I been up to today?

MISSIONS

Well apart from a few small side quests such as Races / Speed Runs, Surviving waves of enemies while trying to get a high score and coming across Hellbug Nests and Raider ambushes, Solving a "Murder in Madera" and began "Taming the Wilds"  of the same place.

The only notable missions I have done today are...

Major Miner Rescue.

First time I tried it I was by myself I died so many times trying to rescue the miners that I lost three times more money then I would make if I completed it.  The last straw came when I finally rescued the Miners and then the Engineer and Foreman.

My next task was to protect the final two people as they did something.  Now remember I was by myself and I was running low on ammo.  Yes there is an ammo crate nearby but when you are being shot from all directions it is very hard (almost impossible) to loot these things.  Needless to say I died.

When I respawned and made my way back to the mine I was horrified to see that all the Miners that I had rescued previously had managed to get themselves captured again.  Needless to say this was very upsetting and so I abandoned that mission and determined that I would come back later with better weapons.

Well I did go back and this time a few other people were also doing the same mission as me and this time we managed to succeed.  My reward was the TMW Hannibal 800R Red, a vehicle which is not even as good as the one I was awarded in an earlier and less difficult mission.

and

Safe No More

A simple case of securing some place called Ridgecrest,  killing several dozen Raiders and watching Coop euthanize some mortally wounded friend of his and then protecting a miner as he turned on some turrets, still it was nice to see the return of the Pulverizer, a pretty awesome Melee weapon

ARKFALLS

Number 1:  A simple case of surviving several waves of Hellbugs at various locations and then destroying a Hellbug Matron.

(one of these little guys)

Number 2:  Was also another case of surviving waves but this time I did not get to see the end boss of this particular event as it was during this that the Shadow War I was waiting for finally started.

Number 3:  This time I was destroying Crystals.  This ended up in a huge against a massive Mature Hellbug Hellion with a few guest appearances by several Hellbug Monarchs.

Number 4:  Again like the first two of today I was surviving waves of Hellbugs, but again I did not get to finish.  This time it was not a case of a a competitive or co-op match starting, but instead the more annoying issue of my PS3 freezing which meant having to turn it off at the wall.  By the time I got back in the game the Arkfall was over.

Number 5:  Basically a replay of Number 1, survive waves and then kill a Matron

COMPETITIVE

YES!!!! I finally got into a Shadow War.  Been trying to get into one since the 2nd and today it only too a further 2 hours of queuing to get in one.  And then it lasted for about about 15 mins, which makes it almost not worth the effort it took to get into one.

As for the actual Shadow War... Well it was kinda fun apart from a lot of lag which kept making my character freeze and also people riding around on seemingly indestructible vehicles knocking people over (yes in a Shadow War you can get hit by opposing side vehicles) for pretty much insta-deaths.

Not sure if all Shadow Wars are the same but the one I tried it was a basic "capture and hold points" game which started with only A,B & C but then more unlocked until it was up to F.

In the end it was fun to a degree but it is not something I will be rushing to try again any time soon.

I also played a couple of Team Deathmatches, which I am happy to say I did ok in, I am terrible at Team Deathmatches so OK for me is a good thing.  I even managed to get a killstreak of 7 which is a huge difference to my usual Kill One - Die Five Times routine when it comes to TDs

CO-OPERATIVE

The only one I have so far is "Liberate The Lost" which I have already done several times before, still I had another go at it.  I, along with 3 other random players,  rescued the people, destroyed the canisters of adrenaline and killed the end boss.  Nothing really special happened so not much to say on the subject.

WEAPONS OF THE DAY

Well today my favorite weapons (as in the ones I used most) were:

VBI CS-X Cluster Shot - A fun little combat shotgun that actually fires small grenades that detonate on impact.  It has a good rate of fire and doesn't take too long to reload.  Perfect for going against Hellbugs and larger enemies such as Raider Tanks

VBI Firestorm - A standard assault rifle which also does flame damage

Flashsurge Pro-22W - A grenade that upon exploding both blinds and electrocutes nearby enemies
